7 Preface يَعلَمونَ ظاهِرًا مِنَ الحَياةِ الدُّنيا وَهُم عَنِ الآخِرَةِ هُم غافِلونَYusuf AliThey know but the outer1 (things) in the life of this world: but of the End of things2 they are heedless.Men are misled by the outward show of things, though the inner reality may be quite different. Many seeming disasters are really godsends if we only understood.Akhirah: I have usually translated “Hereafter”. Here the context is perfectly general, and refers to the End of things or enterprises in history as well as the Hereafter in the technical theological sense.
