6وَانطَلَقَ المَلَأُ مِنهُم أَنِ امشوا وَاصبِروا عَلىٰ آلِهَتِكُم ۖ إِنَّ هٰذا لَشَيءٌ يُرادُAli UnalThe leaders among them went about inciting one another: “Move on, and remain constant to your deities. Surely that (to which this man calls) is the very thing that is certainly intended (deliberately plotted by him and those who follow him).1Like the leading ones among the people of Noah, upon him be peace, who reacted to his call, saying, “He only wishes to gain superiority over you” (23: 24), the leading polytheists of Makkah claimed that what God’s Messenger, upon him be peace and blessings, intended by his call, and those who followed him, was leadership and high position in Makkah.
