57 Preface كُلُّ نَفسٍ ذائِقَةُ المَوتِ ۖ ثُمَّ إِلَينا تُرجَعونَYusuf AliEvery soul shall have a taste of death:1 In the end to Us shall ye be brought back.Cf. 3:185. n. 491, and 21:35 and n. 2697. Death is the separation of the soul from the body when the latter perishes. We should not be afraid of death, for it only brings us back to God. The various kinds of hijrah or exile, physical and spiritual, mentioned in the last note, are also modes of death in a sense: what is there to fear in them?
